Directors and Directions 1992

We asked Brisbane’s Gallery Directors to comment on their plans and policy for 1992, and on the role their Gallery plays in a changing art scene. We received the following replies…

ROZ MacALLAN

Roz MacAllan Gallery

The Roz MacAllan Gallery was established in Brisbane in 1987 to exhibit the work of Australian contemporary artists. The gallery continued to operate in its inner city premises until mid 1990. Since then I have kept the gallery operating from a home office by renting various locations for exhibitions. In the recess between permanent galleries, I have spent considerable time forging links with the corporate sector and have worked on several large scale projects in conjunction with architects and developers. I feel this situation may not have developed whilst occupying my former premises. In 1991 the Roz MacAllan Gallery introduced a series of Artist's Studio Open Days where the public were invited to view the artist's working process and studio environment. This initiative enabled the public to gain further knowledge and understanding of contemporary art. The Open Day series will continue through 1992. In early 1992 the Roz MacAllan Gallery is planning an exhibition by twenty-two of its artists at the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, to launch the publication New Art Six. The book is the latest in a series by art publishers Craftsman House which documents Australia's early to mid career contemporary artists. In mid 1992 the Roz MacAllan Gallery will reopen in new premises in the city fringe where I will continue to exhibit and represent the forty artists who have stayed with or joined the gallery throughout the recess.
