Welcome to the sixth edition of Write About Art, an anthology of essays written by young people about diverse aspects of art and visual culture. We are delighted to again present the fresh insights and engaging opinions of our young writers. 

The project is designed to give senior secondary students from all regions of Queensland an opportunity to work with professional writers and publishers, to develop their skills and to experience being professionally published. As with previous editions of Write About Art, they have taken up the opportunity with relish. The publication provides a platform for them to share their ideas and viewpoints – and, as you will see, these are many and passionate. They are not afraid to tackle big issues. This year there is a strong interest in feminism, gender and identity, in the environment, issues of social change, and, as ever, the role and importance of art in society.

Students from all State and non-State schools throughout Queensland were invited to submit essays for consideration for this project. Twenty-four were selected by a panel of art and publishing professionals to participate in a mentoring workshop at the Gallery of Modern Art. The students then continued to develop their ideas and essays on-line with their mentors, all of whom are experienced professional writers: Beata Batorowicz, Tim Morrell, Courtney Pedersen and Charles Robb. 

Flying Arts again managed the project and workshop, and, as in the five previous editions, Eyeline Publishing has edited and published the anthology.
