The Churchie Emerging Art Prize returns to the IMA

Entries are now open for The Churchie Emerging Art Prize, returning for its fifth iteration at the Institute of Modern Art (IMA). Profiling the next wave of contemporary artists from across Australia, ‘The Churchie’ is open to all mediums and disciplines, providing a platform for artists of any age at the start of their careers. Thanks to generous supporters, ‘The Churchie’ offers a $25,000 prize pool, with the overall winner receiving a non-acquisitive $15,000 cash prize donated by longstanding sponsor BSPN Architecture.

As a result of the partnership between the IMA and Anglican Church Grammar School, the 35-year- old art prize has pivoted to focus on the strength of an artist’s practice, rather than a singular work. This move is aimed towards encouraging early career artists to develop sustainable studio practices to support long-term development. This unique approach is made possible through the vision of an emerging guest curator, who works in collaboration with the selected finalists to select, develop, and refine works for exhibition.

The finalist’s exhibition, The Churchie Emerging Art Prize 2023, will be exhibited at the Institute of Modern Art from 20 May–19 August 2023. Entries are now open to emerging artists of any age or discipline who are citizens or permanent residents of Australia. Entries close Monday, 13 March 2023, at 5.00pm AEST and can be made via https://churchieemergingart.com.au
